Here is more details on the technology behind the PMB: The PMB sends out an ultrasound puls which will bounce off any thing, seen or unseen. One calibrates it to bounce back from a fixed surface like a wall or piece of furniture for instance. If anything, seen or unseen, interrupts the ultrasound and makes the bouncing distance deviate from the calibrated bounce distance (of the wall or furniture for instance), then the light goes on and the PMB starts playing its creepy sounding music box for as long as something is making the ultrasound bounce back from a distance closer than the calibrated bounce distance.
